Bird Box 2 Release Date: What The Director Has To Say About Movie’s Sequel?

The hope for Bird Box movie getting a sequel might not be over yet. It’s due to the reason that the director hasn’t officially said no to the idea yet. Even without a book to make a story on, we might still get to to see the sequel’s release date on Netflix eventually.

In an interview with Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier Friday, Bier seemed to be content to bask in Bird Box’s success. But, she didn’t say no to the sequel to the apocalyptic horror film starring Sandra Bullock, by any means. (Check: Mindhunter Season 2.)

Bier added that she has been reading people asking for a sequel. But, she said that they have just finished it, so let them just enjoy it first for now. As of now, plenty of people are just doing the same.

Despite garnering bad reviews from the film critics, who called it a poorly-formed fusion of The Happening and A Quite Place, it went to become the most watch original release of Netflix, ever. It was revealed by the company’s metrics.

As far as the numbers go, more than 45 million different Netflix accounts watched it in the first week. This fact generates the idea of getting it a sequel.

Bier said that the numbers are obviously phenomenal, and almost unbelievable. According to her, none of the cast and crew anticipated it.

The Bird Box movie is adapted from the novel of the same title written by Josh Malerman. The film stars Sandra Bullock as Malorie, and she is pregnant when the apocalypse hits as an invisible supernatural threat assuming the form of a person’s greatest fear. By looking directly at the ‘creatures,’ people starting killing themselves. So, in order to survive, everyone starting covering their windows, and wearing blindfolds whenever they have to go outside.

As in the book itself, the movie takes us in multiple time periods. Malorie travels down a river with two children named Boy and Girl. In the flashbacks, we get to see what occurred immediately after the monsters arrived. By the end of the movie, all the gaps get filled up joining the two timelines.

It will be interesting to see if the sequel is made, will the second part explore other people and areas of the world or simply pick up directly following the end of Bird Box? In both the cases, there is no follow-up material. In such a case, Bird Box 2 would have to explore new territory.

Maybe, the success of this streaming adaptation will force/inspire the original author to write a sequel of their own. As of now, you can watch Bird Box on Netflix stream.

As of now, Bird Box 2 has no official release date.
