Bo Hopkins’ real full name was William Hopkins. He was born on February 2, 1942, in Greenville, SC. His father died when he was just 9. He changed his first name to Bo after playing the role in Bus Stop. It was his first off-Broadway play. Hopkins’ mother and grandmother raised the actor. Later on, he got to know that he was an adopted child, and went to meet his biological parents.

Bo rose to fame during 1969 and 1979 when he played key supporting roles in films. He debuted in feature films with The Wild Bunch and played the role of Crazy Lee in 1969. Then, director Sam Peckinpah landed him another supporting role in The Getaway (1972). Afterwards, he starred in White Lightning (1973), Posse (1975), The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing (1973), Midnight Express (1978), American Graffiti (1973), and The Bounty Hunter (1989).
