HBO drama Euphoria has been renewed for season 2. The Boundary-pushing show stars Zendaya, and it follows a group of California teens as events in their lives, both good and bad, connect them. The series is an adaptation of an Israeli TV show of the same name which ran for 10 episodes from 2012 to 2013. (Check: The Boys Season 2.)
Sam Levinson (Assassination Nation) created the show for HBO, and had written all the 8 episodes in the first installment. Apart from it, he also directed five of them. It’s a narrative type story which Rue (Zendaya) narrates. She is a recovering drug addict living somewhere in the California suburbs and her fellow students at East Highland high school.
Jules is a new student at East Highland who is a risk-taker that loves hard despite a traumatic past. Football star Nate who is enraged against the world and women, mostly simmer right beneath the surface.
Maddy is the girlfriend of Nate and one of the most popular girls as school who basks in the attention. Cassie is Maddy’s friend who fights to be recognized and appreciated for who she is rather than what she looks like. Kat transforms from a shy friend of Maddy and Cassie to a sex-positive, empowered young woman who seeks validation from much older men.
It was renewed for a second season in early July 2019, when nearly half of the first season’s episodes had been aired. It is being expected that Levinson would return as showrunner. And, most of the Euphoria cast should return given where the season 1 finale left them.
Euphoria Season 2 Release Date
HBO hasn’t confirmed any premiere date for the second installment of Euphoria yet. The first season of the series premiered on June 16, 2019, Sunday. Quickly, it went on to become a popular summer series for HBO. So, we can expect a similar release window for the upcoming installment.
Euphoria Season 2 Plot
The story for Euphoria’s season 2 isn’t officially out yet. The first installment’s finale left viewers with lots of questions that need answers. The biggest of them is related to the health of Rue. At the end of the finale, she relapsed after refusing to get on a train with Jules as a way to escape their suburban lives.
In the last moments of the finale, it all spiraled into dreamlike music video. It could possibly mean that Rue has overdosed herself for a second time, and she may even end up dying. It needed to confirmed where if she is still alive or not. However, it looks like that she will revive as Zendaya is going to return.
The Euphoria s2 will revolve around Nate suffering mental and emotional breakdown shortly before the season finale’s winter formal. He also broke up with his on-and-off-again girlfriend Maddy. She has compiled a CD’s worth of incriminating evidence against Nate’s father.
Two other things to talk about involve Cassie as she had experienced an abortion shortly after winter formal after falling pregnant with her college boyfriend McKay’s baby, and Fez, the dropout drug dealer who could possibly be killed for the robbery he committed in order to repay his supplier.
