Though Gotham is the city of Batman and a story of how things added up and transformed a kid into the dark knight. Specifically speaking, this series is the story of Jim Gordon. The series premiered in 2014, and became one of FOX’s highest rated dramas. The live viewership has falled in the last five years, but it has maintained the loyal fanbase.
It was a good decision by Fox to give Gotham series a proper final season instead of simply canceling it right out on a cliffhanger. They have canceled shows right out in the past. The fifth and final season of Gotham was announced right after the season 4 finale. Fox decided to wrap up the Batman prequel series.
The fifth installment of Gotham had only a total of 12 episodes unlike the regular 22 episodes per season in the past. Any loyal fan to the series would definitely thank Fox for an extra pack of 12 episodes instead of simply canceling it. Jim Gordon turned out to be hero as he resurrected the Gotham city from being a wasteland.

In the final installment, the fans got to see the No Man’s Land story played out. And finally, Jim Gordon became the mustachioed lawman as found/portrayed in most of the DC comics. Also, in the end, he got promoted to Commissioner of Police. And Bruce Wayne became the Batman, the hero and protector of the Gotham city.
The series was given a definite end with the season 5 finale. Now, it has nowhere to go for even if a new series was to be announced. If the story is to continue, it will majorly focus on Batman. The most of the story of Jim Gordon gets completed in the Gotham series.
Gotham Is The Story of Jim Gordon not Batman
Although both the characters lived in the same city, this series, Gotham was the story focused majorly on Jim Gordon. It ended up with a fully formed Batman. With it, many fans started wishing for a new series, but it was never designed to focus on Batman. It was formed to tell the story before Batman came to protect it.
Bruce Wayne may have played a major role in the story, it was always intended to focus on Jim Gordon. From here on, the story of the Batman starts, but it puts an end to Gordon’s story.
No Plans To Continue Gotham
In the past, many shows have been revived, but there is a very little possibility that Gotham will continue its run. The series was crafted from beginning to the end. So far, we haven’t heard an official word mentioning the season 6 of Gotham. So, there seems to no chance of happening it at all.
Also, we haven’t heard or gotten any indication about any kind of follow-up program or spinoff that could in the work. For Gotham, it’s truly the end. But, a new series may be formed focusing on the adventures of Batman and the Dark Knight rising. It may happen in the future.
