Sherlock Season 5 Release Date: Cast, Trailer, Episodes, When will the new series release on Netflix?

The season 5 of Sherlock has been teased by the series’ main actors. Here is everything that you will need to know about its release date, cast, episodes, trailer, plot, spoilers, etc. Robert Downey Jr is returning on the big screen with Sherlock Holmes 3 as the lead detective himself. But, there has no update regarding the series by BBC or Netflix. However, the lead stars of the show, be it Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Steven Moffa, or Mark Gatiss, they have said, at some point of time, that they are ready for another series. But, again, no plan has been revealed yet. We believe that some clues will be dropped soon.

Sherlock Season 5 Release Date: When will series premiere?

Until recently, it was believed that the fifth season of Sherlock was a long time away. Regarding the BBC detective show, co-showrunner Steven Moffat said that he haven’t really thought about it. It’s because Mark Gatiss, co-showrunner has been busy with other stuff as well. That’s why they haven’t really sat down to work on the topic.

However, Chris Georgious had recently shared revealed that the season 5 of Sherlock seems to be closer than it appear. In a piece which shared, he mentioned that he has heard that they are working to bring out the next installment in the series. But, Gatiss has called it ‘utter nonsense’.

Given that Steven Moffat is no longer working on Doctor Who and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange next is not coming anytime soon, it looks like they have more time on their hands.

Sherlock Season 5 Cast: Who are returning?

It is of no doubt that every season of the smash hit BBC show has to include Sherlock Holmes (Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Freeman). Without them, the series can’t run. Cumberbatch has shown interest in working again. In 2017, the lead actor said that the idea of never playing him again is really annoying.

Freeman seemed a little less keen. We don’t know anything about any other cast members, as of now. It seem that Gatiss would return to play Sherlock’s brother Mycroft Holmes in season 5.

Sherlock season 5 plot: What’s going to happen?

There has been no official word on its plot yet. However, the cast members have shared their ideas of what would be the series’ future be like. Moffat shared his thoughts about the future of the series via a Facebook post. He considered the first four seasons as Chapter One and wrote the following:

“Dr Watson is now Doyle’s brave widower and Sherlock Holmes has become the wise and humane version of the main run of the stories (we’ve focused, so far, on the cold Holmes of the early days.)” And, continue to write Chapter Two as “our boys consciously living the myth and battling wrong-doers”.

Cumberbatch seemed interested to play him as an old man. It could be a similar version of Sherlock that was attempted in the 2015 film Mr Holmes as the detective in his old age. It starred Ian McKellen.
