It will be interesting to see how Simmba, the Bollywood movie starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan fares at the box office on its first Sunday (1st weekend) of release. As expected, Simba is rocking the charts. It collected Rs 24 crore on its 2nd day after earning Rs 20 crore upon its opening. Thus making its 2 days total of Rs 44 crores. There are a lot of expectations from the latest directorial venture of Rohit Shetty. Trade analysts expect it to show exceptional growth over the extended New Year weekend. Simmba has reduced the number of screens of Zero starring Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Anushka Sharma on its release. Thus, making it practically out of competition from now on.
On its opening, Simmba collected Rs 20 crores while Zero had also minted nearly the same amount. Ranveer’s film has been rocking in the Mumbai circuit. It became the biggest opener for Ranveer. After its opening Friday, it experienced growth on Saturday. Now, it started solid again on Sunday with a good occupancy.
Ranveer started 2018 with a bang with Padmaavat which rocked the box office. With its release, Simmba received good reviews. Then, it got the support of audiences and the film started to earn moolah. Ranveer’s last film Padmaavat minted Rs 300 crore at the domestic level. This is the first time when Ranveer and Rohit have come together for a film.
Rohit has his name attached to some of the biggest Indian blockbuster films. Chennai Express starring SRK and Deepika Padukone had collected Rs 424 cr (worldwide). Simmba is also expected to do some wonders at the BO. The film has started with a bang on Sunday, today. As per the trend, it should collect over Rs 30 crores making its 1st weekend around Rs 75 cr.
The average occupancy for the morning shows in the multiplexes is reported to be around 50-55% while Mumbai region is reported to have witness the occupancy in 70-75% range. It is an increase of about 15-20% compared to Saturday. After this, there is still New Year eve and New Year left for the film to churn out more money.
