Thackeray – a biopic on Shiv Seva founder Bal Thackeray has made a collection of Rs 22.90 cr in the first 3 days at the box office. The film starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role opened to just Rs 6 cr on Friday, then went on to earn Rs 10 cr on Saturday, and concluded the first weekend by collecting Rs 7 cr on Sunday. Directed & written by Abhijit Panse, the film has been released simultaneously in two languages – Marathi and Hindi. As per the reports, it has done the best business in the Marathi region. It has dominated in the state of Maharashtra and faring better than any other releases of this time. It surpassed the expectations on its first day.

On the other hand, Kangana’s Manikarnika has successfully collected Rs 42.55 cr in the first three days in business. Upon its release, the film got mixed reviews from the critics. But, they did appreciate the performance of Nawazuddin in particular. However, the film is being appreciated by the movie-watchers. It has got a positive word of mouth.

On Monday, it faced a drop of around 23% compared to Sunday and was able to mint Rs 3.75 cr making its 4 days collection to a total of Rs 26.75 cr.

Released a day earlier to Republic Day of India, Thackeray utilized the national holiday to collect more money. Made on a medium budget of Rs 30 crore, the film was released on around 1200 screens in India. It will be considered a hit if it crosses the mark of 40 crore in its lifetime run, which is expected from it.

It was released on the 93rd birth anniversary of Balasaheb Thackeray. Produced by Dr Shrikant Basi under the banner of Viacom18 Motion Pictures, it stars Amrita Rao as Nawazuddin’s wife – Meena.

Simmba starring Ranveer Singh has slowed over the time due to the release of newer films like Vicky Kaushal’s Uri and two films which released on this past Friday – Thackeray and Manikarnika. The latter three films are based on real incidents or persons.
