The Winds of Winter book in the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series has already been delayed too much. Recently, the last and final season 8 of Game of Thrones released. And it got a mixed bag of reviews from the fans. They even went to file a petition to redo the installment in question. (Check: French Open 2019.)

Over a million people signed that petition as according to them the GoT season 8 didn’t meet the expectations. Though, it was opened with much excitement and anticipation as it came almost after two years. Almost 19.3 million people watched the Game of Thrones s8 finale episode. After that, the fans have again turned to the author George RR Martin to ask about his plans for the A Song of Ice and Fire saga. It is the same novel series that inspired the HBO’s most watched fantasy television series. It also became probably the most pirated tv shows ever in the history.

Let’s see if there is any progress with the author’s upcoming book, the Winds of Winter. He seemed to have shared something about it in his latest post. There have been many people and organizations offering the author, George Martin to finish his book. But, recently Air New Zealand went too far to provide an open invitation.

The firm offered Martin to fly him free of cost so that he could complete his epic masterpiece of two last novels in the area surrounded by the peacefulness and beauty of the nature in their country.

They sent him a video featuring the reasons why should he visit New Zealand and how it will inspire George to finish his 6th and 7th books – the Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. In their 90-second long message, they tried to convince him to fly away from the fans’ pressures and profession commitments to solely concentrate on finishing the books.

After receiving the invitations, George Martin took it to his Not A Blog page and appreciated Air New Zealand’s open and generous invitation. But, he politely declined it as well. He cited that he may get too distracted by the beauty of country and may not be able to focus on finishing the novels.

Martin also added that he could well afford to fly himself to New Zealand. He also added that many other writers would appreciate the opportunity to take up the invitation in his place if the airline was to extend the invite to 30 or 50 of them.

Also, the author’s final statement seemed to have pointed in the direction that he is close to finishing the Winds of Winter.

GRRM ended his LiveJournal’s blog writing that if he didn’t have a copy of the book in his hand by WorldCon in July 2020, he is giving his written permission to have himself imprisoned in a cabin in White Island until he finishes his novels.

When the Game of Thrones s8 got finished, Martin appreciated the HBO’s Game of Thrones team headed by DB Weiss and David Benioff for a job well done. He also explained to fans that developing a show with the same magnitude as A Song of Ice and Fire is a daunting task and is far removed from producing a manuscript.

Martin assured the fans via his blog post that he is busy working on the upcoming installments of his novel and is trying to release them as soon as possible. However, he didn’t mention any release date as he has failed to meet the previous deadlines. His last book ‘A Dance with Dragons’ was released in 2011.
