Wakfu is a French animated television series of Netflix which has been adapted from a 2012 tactical turn-based massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) of the same name by Ankama Games. Though the game development began in 2006, it wasn’t released until 2012. (Check: Mr Pickles Season 4.)

On an interesting note, the show made its debut even before the game was released. Ankama Animations, Frakas Productions, and Pictonovo developed the animated show. The first season premiered on October 30, 2008, on France 3. It consisted of a total 26 episodes. It ran until June 5, 2010.

After some months, the second season of Wakfu released on February 26, 2011, which run until March 3, 2012. It consisted of a total 26 episodes. Ankama launched a kickstarter campaign for the production of its English dubbed version. Later on, Netflix purchased its all rights. So, it became available on its platform in September 2014.

Keeping the Brotherhood aside, there are still many more supporting characters and antagonists who make regular appearances throughout the show. As in the game, Wakfu is set in a mystical fantasy world, and the events take place 1000 years after the events of Ankama’s previous game, Dofus which was released in 2005. The show starts when a mysterious figure leaves a baby boy, Yugo with a retired bounty hunter in a small village.

The bounty hunter is given the responsibility of raising Yugo till he reaches an age when he would be able to find out his biological family.
