Alia and Varun’s latest Bollywood film faced a drop of around 50% on its 2nd day of release. However, it saw a little increase on Friday compared to Thursday. On its opening (1st) day [Wednesday], Kalank made an awesome start by collecting Rs 21.6 crores. Thus, it became the highest opener of 2019.
It earned Rs 11.45 cr and Rs 11.60 cr on its second and third day respectively. As per the reports of the first 3 days collections, Kalank has minted Rs 43 crores approx. The film has been faring well in metro cities, but it has a limited viewership in the mass circuits. It is not going well in Hindi belt, including East Punjab.
Besides Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, the movie stars Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sonakshi Sinha. The flick was released on Mahavir Jayanti, i.e., April 17, 2019. With becoming the 2019’s highest opener, it also became the biggest openers for Alia and Varun, individually and together.
Before the release of the film, there was a huge buzz surrounding it. So, the trade experts assumed that it would collect Rs 100 cr in the first weekend itself. But, it is unlikely to become a reality now, as per the current trends. Kalank has got mixed reviews, and not so good word of mouth.
Abhishek Varman has directed the film, and it is a love story set in the 1940s with a grand backdrop. In the first 2 days, Kalank has minted around $1.650 million that converts to around Rs 11.45 crores.
Speaking of 4th day collection, Kalank managed to earn only Rs 9.45 cr on Saturday. It states that the film is clearly under-performing. Thus, it made a total of Rs 54.45 crores in the first five days of its release.
It has witnessed a bit of better opening today in the morning shows, that is a bit of good news for the filmmakers. If it faces any further drop on this weekend, then it would a kind of game over for it.
Avengers: Endgame is all set to release next week. Considering the upcoming Avengers film and Kalank’s performance so far, it looks like it may face a significant drop in the weekdays to come.
