The Overlord anime has been adapted from the novel with the same name written by Kugane Mruyama. So-Bin has done its illustration, while Madhouse has produced it. Naoyuki Itou has helmed it and its serialization started in 2010. The first season released in summer 2015, and it has a total of 13 episodes. (Check: What’s New on Netflix.)
The season 2 also had the same number of episodes. The first two seasons covered Volume 1 to 6 of the light Novel. The third installment of Overlord got finished up in October 2018. It covered the next three volumes, but not in chronological order. It led to big complications for the forthcoming installment number four.
This has led to even more increase in speculations and rumors regarding what could happen in season 4 of Overlord. The main difference between the light novel and the anime is that they exists in a different timeline than the other. This has made it very complicated from where the next volume will start. It’s because it will have a completely different story than that of the anime’s previous season.
The creator of Overlord, Kugane has postponed the release of Volume 12 by over a month. Volume 13 was supposed to be out in December 2017, but was published in April 2018. In Volume 12, there were a total of 410 pages, and Volume 13 had 574 pages. He has also mentioned that Volume 14 may release in 2019.
But, we still don’t have a specific date so far. The problem is that the story is going to be extensive to be the material for a single-cour anime season. The stories for the Volume 12 and 13 are divided into two parts. So, Madhouse may face difficulties it they think of trying 3 Volumes per season.
It looks like even the creator himself is not sure of the future developments. One Overlord light novel has been coming per year since its inception, but this time the release of next novel (Volume 14) in the series may get postponed to 2020. So, it looks like we are not going to see the Overlord fourth season anytime soon.
Even if it releases sooner, the release of season 5 will take years to come. We are hoping to see tasteful and fascination large-scale warfare in the upcoming volumes. According to Kugane, he wants readers to relax and read. He is expecting to finish the first 20 Volumes by 2025.
Overlord Season 5 Episodes: How Many Are There?
Madhouse can produce the fourth installment in two-cours. The previous seasons have been released in a single-cour of 13 episodes. If the upcoming installment of Overlord gets produced in a double cour route, we may get to see 25 episodes in total. But, then it will take a hell lot of time.
Even if Madhouse gets success in managing it properly and in less amount of time, then there won’t be sufficient content for season 5 in this time frame.
When Would Be Overlord Season 4 Release Date?
As per the trend and workflow, it is quite good to assume that there is a possiblity of getting it delayed until 2020. The reasons are already mentioned above. By looking at the production work flow and the pace of making the light novel of which it is the adaption, it is safe to predict that it may be released by fall 2020 or early 2021.

The demi-humans got caught and imprisoned by the seventh floor Guardian Demiurge who disguised himself as Jaldaboath. As they were forced by him to attack the religious human nation, the nation had to seek help from the Re-Estate Kingdom to get relief from this demonic attack on them. But, they were given a cold shoulder as they couldn’t defeat Jaldaboth.
Only Momon could defeat Jaldaboth, but he has already vowed his loyalty to the Sorcerer King. Out of pity, the Re-Estate Kingdom sent a deputation to the Sorcerer Kingdom to ask Ainz for help against Jaldaboth. Ainz got shocked as Demiurge didn’t utter a single word to his Lord regarding his plan.
Now, Ainz is left solo to stand against Jaldaboth. Ainz is abide by the promises. It will now be interesting to see how Ainz will handle the circumstances. Now, we can only do is to wait for the season to finally come out. But, it is not going to happen soon.

Earlier, FUNimation had licensed the English dubbed episodes for Overland anime. But, they ended it on November 9, 2018. So, we are not sure if the season 4 of Overlord will make it on the streaming service or not. Nevertheless, you can always watch it on Crunchyroll, 3Tv Series, and Hulu.
