Ivica Osim Death Reason: Legendary Bosnian football player, Ivica Osim, passed away on May 1, at the age of 81. Ivica was loved by his fans all over Europe. During his career, he participated in many important international tournaments.

Ivica Osim was born in Sarajevo in 1941, and he actively started coaching football at the Željezničar football club.

After leaving the juniors, he started playing for the first team in the 1959/1960 season, and he played for the club for a total of 11 years, during which time he collected 250 official appearances and scored 75 goals. This was one of the highest records in Bosnian Football history till then.

Ivica Osim has had health issues since 2007. On 16 November 2007, Osim suffered a stroke at his residence in Chiba, Japan. He miraculously came back from the life-threatening coma in just 3 weeks. He was regularly visited by his friends, team players, and family.

On 1 May 2022, Ivica Osim passed away following a stroke in Austria. He had years of health issues before taking the last breath. Ivica was quite the fighter who didn’t only come back from the coma in 2007 but also lived a strong life of 15 years fighting diseases.

Ivica Osim Career History

Ivica Osim was a player of outlandish technique, unpredictable dribbling, and a fantastic shot. His kicking techniques were avant-garde on the grounds of the former state. His style of play was reminiscent of the Brazilian virtuosos of the time, which earned him the nickname Strauß (belligerent) in Grbavica.

For the next nine years, he was a favorite of FK Željezničar Sarajevo fans, and outside he also played for the Dutch Zwolle and the French club’s Sedan Strasbourg and Valenciennes. He played 16 games for the national team of the former Yugoslavia and slashed eight goals, and was a member of the national team that won silver at the 1968 European Championships.

Ivica Osim was also the former coach of the Japan National Football team. He arrived in Japan first in 2003 and was later awarded an honorarium medal from the Japanese Govt for contributing to the country’s soccer.

On May 1, FC Željezničar turned on the spotlights at the Grbavica stadium at 7:41 pm in honor of Ivica Osim, which lit up for exactly 81 minutes. Grbavica Stadium will never be the same without Ivica not being there.

Ivica Osim was born in 1941 and died at the age of 81 after suffering from a few diseases.

Several hundred fans gathered at the Grbavica Stadium, and Osim’s photo was highlighted on the scoreboard.

Ivica was married. Asima Osim was his wife. However, we don’t know the marriage date. They had three children – Selmir, Amar, and Irma. Amar was a professional football player who later became a famous football manager.

It is believed that Ivica left behind an asset of worth $1.5 million. His mainstream income was his professional work.
