The first season of Land of the Lustrous (Houseki no Kuni) ended on such a note that left mysteries which demand to be solved as soon as possible. Thus, anime studio Orange should make and release it at the earliest. If you haven’t read the manga series, then many questions will continue to haunt to you. Some of the most asked questions are – Who is Kong-Sensei, and what is his connection to the Lunarians? Why are the moon-dwellers attacking people like Phos? (Check: Noragami Season 3.)
There is enough manga material available that can be used to make Houseki no Kuni season 2 of the anime series. If the work is done, then we can have the anime sequel quite soon. The serializing process for the story of Land of the Lustrous manga started in late 2012. Mangaka Haruko Ichikawa writes and illustrates it, and a new chapter releases on 25th day of every month.
Is The Land Of The Lustrous manga enough for Houseki no Kuni season 2 anime?
As per reports, the manga has already been dealt with Chapter 60, which means Houseki no Kuni Volume 8 has already been completed. Its English version will release in April 2019. With it, the volume 9 is also in Japanese, but there is no news regarding the release date of its English translation. So, it makes a very clear standing that there is more than enough raw material to be adapted into the anime. Since 2016, Kodansha Comics publishes the English version of the HnK manga.
So far, the Houseki no Kuni anime has followed the source material rightly. The biggest change done in the anime’s characters was that they were made more feminine instead of keeping them in gender ambiguity. Some other changes were added by the GATE director. The fighting sequences are more dynamic now as well as the physical comedy is working better in the anime. Many manga fans believe that the anime is the better version as it combines the CG visuals with sound effects and OST.
Land Of The Lustrous Season 2 Release Date
As of writing this, the anime studio Orange hasn’t uttered anything official regarding the Houseki no Kuni season 2 release date. We will try to update the article at the earliest, after the premiere of anime sequel becomes official and confirmed. So, in the mean time, there would be reasonable speculations with regards to the Land of the Lustrous season 2 air date.
If the anime was made just to promote the manga, then it has done its job successfully. Upon its release, Houseki no Kuni volume 8 sold 134,303 copies within a month and became the #4 most selling on the Oricon charts. This figure was more than two times what the previous volumes in the manga series could do.
So, this success of manga justifies the creation of anime’s season two. But, that not it. The future of an anime is also determined by the sales of its Blu-ray and DVD. The anime has been released in six Blu-ray box set volumes and each box contains two episodes.
So far, it has been ranked in the top 10 on the Oricon charts. 5321 copies of Volume 1 were sold in the first week while Volume 2 become the best selling on the charts with 5413 sold in the same amount of time. In the recent times, the digital streaming sites have also become a significant source of income to the anime industry. Making it Amazon exclusive has one of the income’s significant factors.
Developing anime takes years and the manga content needs to be ahead of the anime so that the source is available by the right time. The schedule for anime industry gets booked up years in advance. So, we are expecting that Houseki no Kuni season 2 may be released in 2019. Let’s wait and watch, what’s in the store for us, the fans!
Houseki no Kuni Season 2 Spoilers: The Truth Shatters
The jewel has suspected something wrong since the time Phos heard Kongo-Sensei calling the Lunarian dog monster Shiro. In Chapter 33, we see that her suspicion rises following Sensei during a battle against three Lunarian vessels. Phos wanted to investigate why the Lunarians exhibited an odd behavior by wrapping themselves into a tight ball. But, Sensei didn’t allow it.
At the time when Phos was about to openly defy Sensei, the scythe-wielding Ghost Quartz jumps up onto the sticky ball, maybe to protect Sensei from getting exposed. But, Ghost gets grabbed by arms out of a rip in the air. Phos thought to rescue Ghost, but stopped herself to see what Sensei might do. It gave her the opportunity to check Sensei’s actions.
In response in no time, Sensei squeezed his own arm tightly to break off tiny fragments of his body to save Ghost. With a little pain, he freed the Ghost from the trap. After knowing that Phos saw what he did, Sensei asked Phos not to tell about it to anyone and keep it as a secret. Such secrets became the desire of Phos to investigate Sensei and for this task, she asked Cinnabar to help her.
By chapter 53, we can saw her going to the moon to find answers while researching Lunarians. Phos sneaked onto the moon as she pretended to be unconscious during a battle with the Lunarians. They snatched Phos and teleported her back to the moon. Upon arrival, they started chattering up a storm.
When one Lunarian was proclaiming that they have got a great catch today, Phos sliced the crowds with her golden arms without warning. With that, she teared into the city on a search quest to find Antarcticite, the winter friend who was captured a long ago.
