Will there be a season 4 of Jessica Jones on Netflix? It’s an interesting question which has arisen after the third installment has been released. Will fans be able to watch it in near future? It’s an unfortunate news that this seems to be the end for New York’s smarmiest and most super-powered private detective. (Check: Altered Carbon Season 2.)

This Netflix show revolves around the titular character of private investigator named Jessica Jones. She is a superhero trying to repress her powers and painful memories of the past with alcohol and blinders on. She had buried herself in the problems of others until a sinister figure from her past came back.

It forced Jessica to confront her painful past and atone for her sins. Over the first three seasons, the Jessica character has grown, developed, and embraced her superhero side. The streaming giant made sure to send her out on a high note. Though its cancellation has been confirmed, is there any slight chance of its revival in the future?

Here’s everything that is public and known. Let’s get all the information regarding the Jessica Jones fourth season.

Jessica Jones’s Cancellation Came Before Season 3 Release

In February 2019, Netflix confirmed the cancellation of Jessica Jones along with all other five Netflix/Marvel shows. It was done to get boot from the streaming service. It all started with the cancellation of the least well-received series – Iron Fist in October 2018. The news of Luke Cage cancellation came a week later.

Shortly after that, Daredevil was announced to have been cancelled. Thereafter, the Punisher met the same fate at the same time as Jessica Jones. However, at that time, it was also confirmed that JJ season 3 would still release on Netflix.

The cancellation of Jessica Jones was inevitable by the fact that Disney decided to launch its own streaming service known as Disney+. It means that original programming from corporate family companies including Marvel Studios would be developed.

It never became explicitly public, but the relationship between Netflix and Marvel went south when Marvel’s parent company announced to launch a competitive streaming service to Netflix.

Perhaps, this explains the cancellation of all Marvel series at Netflix. Probably, that’s why Netflix dumped all of them even after somewhat a successful run.

Jessica Jones Season 3 Marks The End

We know that Jessica Jones’ run at Netflix has ended. It has been done for a considerable foreseeable future. But, it still made sure to go out on a strong note. There were many loose ends left to tie up in the series finale. As a result, it pulled double duty in acting to feature Marvel/Netflix characters for the finale episode.

Jessica had to make the incredibly tough decision to turn against Trish, who went full brutal vigilante as Hellcat, turning her over to the authorities in charge of The Raft, the prison first introduced in Captain America: Civil War. Jessica also decides to forgo escaping from her life in New York City by going to Mexico, returning instead to Alias Investigations and continue doing business. That’s all there is of Jessica Jones.

Can Jessica Jones Return Somewhere Else?

Per the Marvel/Netflix partnership, Disney will not be able to use any of the characters for two years. It means that we won’t be get more of the characters – Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, The Punisher, and Iron Fist for two years, at-least. It could also mean them to bench them permanently.

Disney may not be interested in spending time and money to revive those characters and shows as Disney already have a lot of IP to develop and waiting in the wings to premiere. For now, there is no official word neither from Netflix or Marvel/Disney regarding the shows.

We don’t know yet, if the shows including Jessica Jones will go to another streaming service or network. Between the intricacies on contracts and negotiating which characters and stories can be developed where it’s highly likely any or all of the characters from the Marvel/Netflix world will be persona non grata for the next two years.

Even after that, it’s tough to really predict if fans will ever see Jessica Jones on their TV screens again. Best start preparing for a permanent goodbye now.
